ORCAM devices provided to visually impaired children in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 4 March 2025, a ceremonial event was held in Uzbekistan to mark the handover of ORCAM devices for children with visual impairments.
This significant initiative was made possible through the cooperation of the Embassy of Israel, the Israeli international cooperation program MASHAV, the Agency for Social Protection of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and ORCAM Technologies. The event was attended by the Israeli Ambassador to Uzbekistan, Gideon Lustig, the First Deputy Director of the Agency for Social Protection, Usman Sharifkhojaev, and an ORCAM Technologies representative, Oren Barashi.
As part of the initiative, four ORCAM MyEye devices were provided to high school students Yusufkhoja, Zakhro, Shakhzoda, and Okila, while one ORCAM Reader device was donated to Specialized School No. 77, which serves students with visual impairments. The project was implemented with the support of MASHAV and the Agency for Social Protection as part of their joint efforts to promote inclusive society and social integration.
ORCAM is an innovative portable voice-activated device designed for individuals who are blind or visually impaired. It enables instant reading of text from books and screens, recognizes faces, identifies objects and products, and delivers real-time information to the user.
Israeli Ambassador Gideon Lustig emphasized that the initiative is not just about assisting individual children but also about demonstrating the transformative power of innovation: "I believe the purpose of this event is not just to support these remarkable young individuals. It shows us that if you have a great idea that can benefit others, it can become a turning point in their lives. Israel’s spirit of innovation and culture have proven that the right technologies can always be found, and each of us has the power to change many lives."
First Deputy Director of the Agency for Social Protection, Usman Sharifkhojaev, highlighted the importance of such initiatives: "Through projects like this, we are building a society where equal rights and opportunities for all become the norm."
