Only One in Eight E-Prescriptions is Being Fulfilled In Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — More than 400,000 electronic prescriptions have been issued in Tashkent and 15 pilot districts across the country, yet only one in eight is actually dispensed at pharmacies, reported Abdulla Azizov, Director of the Agency for the Development of the Pharmaceutical Industry.
According to official data, 387,002 prescriptions were issued in public medical institutions and 25,393 in private clinics. However, only 54,770 medications have actually been dispensed.
Due to the low fulfillment rate, authorities plan to strengthen oversight in coordination with the prosecutor’s office. Inspections will verify whether pharmacies are properly processing electronic prescriptions and complying with legal requirements.
Additionally, in cooperation with the Tax Committee, controls will be implemented over the dispensing of hormonal and antibacterial drugs, including antibiotics, which are sold exclusively via electronic prescriptions. In cases of violations, measures will range from additional staff training to stricter legal accountability.
“By the end of 2026, the electronic prescription system should be implemented across all regions of Uzbekistan,” emphasized Abdulla Azizov.
