Ombudsman considered and solved 9,074 citizens’ complaints in 2017
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Senators considered a report on activities of the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan (Ombudsman) in 2017.

In 2017, the Ombudsman reviewed and solved 9,074 appeals of citizens of the Republic of Uzbekistan, foreign states, stateless persons, public organizations, legal entities.

Based on the results of this work, 34 people were employed and restored at work, 53 families were provided with material assistance, 39 families were provided with medical assistance, 2,319 million soums were recovered in the state’s income, 263 million soums were paid to the beneficiaries, about 133 million soums of credits received by the businesses, etc.

The Ombudsman is working to strengthen parliamentary control over ensuring the rights and freedoms of detainees. A mechanism has been put in place to periodically inform the parliament chambers of the outcome of the consideration of complaints of unlawful actions, and a joint timetable for organizing and conducting monitoring and analysis activities to prevent torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment has been approved.

During discussion of the report, the senators made suggestions and recommendations aimed at further enhancing the effectiveness of the Ombudsman’s work.
