Number of Aircraft Operated by Uzbek Airlines to Reach 180 by 2030
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has announced ambitious plans to significantly expand the country’s aviation infrastructure.
As part of the construction of the new Tashkent International Airport, the total number of aircraft in the fleets of Uzbek airlines will increase by 75 units.
Currently, Uzbek carriers operate 105 aircraft, but by 2030, this figure is expected to reach 180. The number of routes will expand to 230, and the annual volume of domestic and international flights will reach 200,000.
Regular flights to Uzbekistan are currently operated by 51 foreign airlines from countries including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, South Korea, China, India, Malaysia, Türkiye, Russia, and Poland, among others.
The president emphasized that the new airport will become a key element of the national transport system, and once the project is fully operational, state revenues could exceed $700 million annually.
The airport complex will cover 1,310 hectares — equivalent to 16 Tashkent City districts, 1,580 football fields, or half of Uchtepa district.
The site was chosen based on strict safety and operational criteria, ensuring convenient takeoff and landing conditions. The airport will be located 24 km from the city center, with a 25-minute travel time, and plans include shuttle services and a dedicated metro line connecting it to the capital.
The project design was developed by the Dutch company Naco Consulting, which has extensive experience in planning major international aviation hubs.
President Mirziyoyev noted that the airport will become an integral part of New Tashkent, a 20,000-hectare urban development, laying the foundation for transforming Uzbekistan into a regional aviation hub “connecting East and West, North and South.”
Construction of the new international airport officially began on 15 October 2025.
