Novak and Mirzamakhmudov Discuss Development of Russia–Uzbekistan Energy Cooperation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Alexander Novak held a working meeting with Minister of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov on the sidelines of the Russian Energy Week.

The parties discussed the development of cooperation in the gas, oil, and nuclear sectors, with particular focus on the implementation and expansion of existing energy supply contracts.

Gazprom continues to supply Uzbekistan with 7.7 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year, and both sides noted significant potential for increasing supply volumes, including liquefied natural gas (LNG).

In 2024, Uzbekistan imported 233.5 thousand tons of Russian oil. Oil and gas companies of both countries are also exploring opportunities for joint development of hard-to-recover reserves in Uzbekistan.

A key area of partnership is the construction of a nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan. According to the agreements reached, the project envisions the construction of two power units with a capacity of 1,000 MW each, as well as two small units of 55 MW each. In October 2025, construction began on the first small-capacity power unit.
