No unified student uniform: Clarification from the Ministry of Higher Education
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Recently, social media has been abuzz with rumors about a planned introduction of a unified uniform for all students at universities and institutes across Uzbekistan. The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation has officially denied these rumors, emphasizing that such claims are based on a distorted interpretation of a draft government resolution.
The ministry explained that the draft in question includes a provision “On the Creation of a Brand for Higher Education Institutions,” which proposes the development of a corporate identity and image concept for each university. However, the document contains no provisions mandating the introduction of compulsory uniforms or standardized clothing for students.
The Ministry stressed that each educational institution has the right to independently develop elements of its corporate style, including symbols and guidelines for appearance, taking into account historical context, cultural characteristics, and educational objectives. All such recommendations are purely voluntary and are determined by the internal regulations of the respective university.
Furthermore, the ministry’s statement underscores that the rights and freedoms of students as citizens, including the right to self-expression, are guaranteed by the Constitution and current legislation of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
