NEXI Insures Loan for Acquisition of Samarkand Automobile Plant by Turkish-Japanese Consortium
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Nippon Export and Investment Insurance (NEXI) has decided to provide insurance coverage for a loan issued by Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, BBVA Tokyo Branch, and Deutsche Bank AG Tokyo Branch to Türk Eximbank, the export credit agency of Türkiye, the Japanese company reported.
The loan is intended to support Anadolu Isuzu Otomotiv Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş. (“Anadolu Isuzu”) in securing financing for the acquisition of Samarkand Automobile Plant LLC (“SamAuto”).
Anadolu Isuzu is a joint venture of the Turkish conglomerate Anadolu Group, Japan’s Isuzu Motors Limited, and Itochu Corporation. The company plays a key operational and managerial role in the Isuzu commercial vehicle ecosystem in the region. Anadolu Isuzu produces and sells commercial vehicles under the Isuzu brand under a licensing agreement with the Japanese manufacturer. SamAuto is a state-owned automotive company in Uzbekistan, which also produces Isuzu vehicles and is partially owned by Isuzu and Itochu.
Under the transaction, Anadolu Isuzu acquired SamAuto shares previously held by the Government of Uzbekistan, obtaining a controlling stake. NEXI’s loan insurance via Türk Eximbank is aimed at supporting the global expansion of Isuzu in partnership with Anadolu Isuzu as a key regional partner, while strengthening the international competitiveness of the Japanese automotive industry.
Additionally, the deal contributes to the implementation of Uzbekistan’s state policy on privatizing state-owned enterprises through collaboration with Turkish companies in third countries.
In December 2025, the Agency for Management of State Assets of Uzbekistan announced the completion of the transaction for the sale of a 75.2% government stake in SamAuto to the Turkish company Anadolu Isuzu.
