New Uzbek Ambassador presents credentials to Secretary-General of Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 28 May, the new Ambassador of Uzbekistan resident in Riyadh, Nodirjon Turgunov, presented copies of his credentials to Majid al-Qatarneh, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Jordan, the Dunyo News Agency reports.

During the meeting, the parties discussed ways to invigorate Uzbek-Jordanian relations, as well as cooperation within international organizations such as the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. Special emphasis was placed on the strong historical and cultural ties between the two friendly countries.

They reviewed prospects for expanding political dialogue, including organizing mutual visits at various levels and holding joint events, particularly political consultations between foreign ministries and sessions of the Intergovernmental Commission.

Both sides expressed mutual interest in developing trade and economic partnership, including boosting contacts between business communities and implementing joint investment projects. Specific proposals for actively promoting economic diplomacy were also considered.

Particular attention was given to expanding cultural and humanitarian ties and fostering tourism exchanges. The necessity of organizing Culture Days in the capitals of Uzbekistan and Jordan was emphasized as an important tool for strengthening people-to-people diplomacy.

It is worth recalling that diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and Jordan were established on 15 February 1993.

Nodirjon Turgunov arrived in Riyadh in March 2024 as the new Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Saudi Arabia and in November of the same year was also accredited as Uzbekistan’s permanent representative to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. In April 2025, he presented his credentials to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bahrain, becoming Uzbekistan’s first concurrently accredited ambassador to that country.
