New regulations on pedestrian and bicycle lane safety in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has signed a law that introduces stricter administrative penalties for traffic violations.
The document amends and supplements the Code of Administrative Responsibility of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
According to the new amendments, administrative responsibility is now established for driving vehicles on sidewalks, pedestrian and bicycle lanes, and areas with green spaces adjacent to the roadway. This decision is aimed at ensuring the safety of pedestrians and protecting urban infrastructure.
Additionally, the law imposes penalties for the installation of illegal barriers or devices that obstruct the free movement of road users.
Special attention is given to driving in dedicated public transport lanes. A fine of one basic estimated value (BEV) is now imposed for driving on such lanes. In case of repeated violations within a year, the fine increases to three BEVs.
The measures are designed to improve driver discipline, reduce the number of violations, and create a safer urban environment for pedestrians and public transport passengers.
