Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 26 January, a ceremony was held at Riga International Airport to mark the launch of regular cargo flights between Tashkent and Riga by the Uzbek airline Flykhiva, according to Dunyo news agency.
The event featured a formal reception for the airline’s first cargo aircraft arriving in the Latvian capital.
The ceremony was attended by Latvian Deputy Minister of Transport Andulis Zhidkovs, Chairperson of Riga International Airport Laila Odinya, Deputy Head of Latvian Post Girts Rudzins, and Director of the Customs Department at the State Revenue Service, Raimonds Zukuls.
Latvian officials noted that the opening of the new air route represents an important step in developing transport and logistics cooperation between Uzbekistan and Latvia and will help strengthen trade and economic ties between Central Asian countries and the European Union.
Andulis Jidkovs emphasized that the launch of direct cargo flights between Tashkent and Riga is seen as a sign of Uzbekistan’s growing position as a key logistics hub in the Central Asian region.
Flykhiva plans to operate the Tashkent–Riga cargo flights on a regular weekly schedule. The majority of transported goods will consist of Uzbek export products, postal and commercial shipments to EU countries, as well as orders placed through international e-commerce platforms, including TEMU, AliExpress, and others.
