New border checkpoints to be opened at Uzbek-Kazakh border
President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbaev agreed to expand border cooperation between two states within the negotiations in Astana on 23 March.
According to the committee, a protocol on changing and amending to the protocol to the agreement between the Governments of Uzbekistan and Kazakstan on border checkpoints via the Uzbek-Kazakh border from 4 September 2006 was signed.
Within the protocol, checkpoints Kaplanbek, Kazygurt and Atameken will be transferred from “bilateral” to “multilateral” and from “day” to “24-hour” work regime.
Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan plans to open new checkpoints Tselinniy and Syrdarya.
The committee said that currently Astana and Tashkent work on constriction of additional checkpoints at the Uzbek-Kazakh border.
The Kazakh committee said that Kazakh ministries and departments were ordered to develop a draft plan on reconstruction and modernization of existing checkpoints at the Uzbek-Kazakh border.
It is planned to repair roads near checkpoints, including bridges. It is planned to reconstruct five checkpoints in Southern-Kazakhstan region – 3 in 2018 and 2 in 2019.
