New American Center “American Space” Opens in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The American University of Technology (AUT) and the U.S. Embassy have opened a new American Center in Tashkent — a modern hub for educational and cultural initiatives. The center has become part of the global American Spaces network, which includes over 600 locations in 140 countries.

According to the organizers, the project aims to expand access to world-class educational resources and create new opportunities for dialogue and collaboration. The 150-square-meter center is located on the AUT campus.

Its infrastructure includes a multifunctional hall for events, a zone for group work and consultations, and a lounge area for informal interaction. Visitors can use laptops, 3D printers, virtual reality equipment, and high-speed internet. The center’s library features a collection of English-language books and free access to the digital platform eLibraryUSA.

The American Center will regularly host workshops, lectures by invited experts, discussion clubs, English language classes, as well as programs on digital skills, business, and entrepreneurship. The center is open to students, teachers, professionals, and the general public.

The opening ceremony featured remarks by U.S. Ambassador to Uzbekistan Jonathan Henick, Cintana Education founder and chairman Douglas L. Becker, and Cintana Education president Rick Shangraw. The program included a ribbon-cutting ceremony and the signing of a memorandum of understanding.

“The American Center is a symbol of the strong partnership between the United States and Uzbekistan,” Ambassador Henick said. “By showcasing American innovation, we are building a future based on cooperation, mutual respect, and the pursuit of excellence.”

According to the U.S. Embassy, three American Spaces currently operate in Uzbekistan, offering educational consultations, English-language clubs, technology workshops, and seminars on entrepreneurship and leadership.

The new center in Tashkent is intended to strengthen these initiatives and provide young people with additional opportunities for personal and professional development.
