New 4-Kilometer Bypass Road Opens in Ishtikhan District
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A new 4-kilometer bypass road has been commissioned in the Ishtikhan district of Uzbekistan’s Samarkand region, according to the regional governor’s office.
The new road is designed to reduce traffic congestion in the district center and improve transport links with the Mitan settlement and the M-37 highway. The opening ceremony was attended by Samarkand region governor Adiz Boboev and First Deputy Prosecutor General Bakhodir Valiev.
The project cost totaled 40 billion Uzbek soums. According to estimates, the road is expected to reduce traffic congestion in Ishtikhan by around 40 percent and accelerate freight transit toward the Kushrabad, Kattakurgan, and Payariq districts.
As part of the construction project, a 73-meter-long and 15-meter-wide bridge was also built. The project includes 3.5 kilometers of bicycle and pedestrian lanes adapted for people with disabilities, two modern bus stops, and the installation of 155 solar-powered streetlights.
The development of regional transport infrastructure has also been discussed at the national level.
Earlier, at a meeting on the development of the Samarkand region in March, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced the allocation of 1.2 trillion soums for industrial development in Kattakurgan and four districts of the region. Of this amount, 400 billion soums are earmarked for the modernization of roads, electricity and water supply systems, as well as the reconstruction of a bridge over the Narpay canal.
