Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 20 April 2022, Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan Ismatulla Irgashev held talks with Kansuke Nagaoka, Director General of the Department for the Middle East and Africa of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the current state and prospects for cooperation between Uzbekistan and Japan in the Afghan direction, in particular, the development of the current situation in this country.
A high-ranking Japanese diplomat praised Uzbekistan’s efforts to provide humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people and economic assistance to Afghanistan.
Nagaoka noted the similarity of the positions and approaches of the Uzbek and Japanese sides in relation to the new authorities of Afghanistan.
In this regard, the importance was emphasized of the fulfillment by the Interim Government of Afghanistan of the basic requirements of the international community, in particular, to ensure the rights of women and national minorities, and to create a government based on broad representation.
The Japanese side also proposed to establish a constructive exchange of views on the Afghan issue within the framework of the Central Asia-Japan dialogue.
