Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- As part of the visit of an Uzbek delegation led by Deputy Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade Shukhrat Vafayev to the UAE, negotiations were held with Masdar CEO Muhamed Al Ramahi.
Masdar successfully implemented the project of the first solar photovoltaic plant in Uzbekistan with a capacity of 100 MW, which was solemnly introduced in August 2021 in Navoi region.
During the meeting, the parties discussed topical issues on the agenda of cooperation, including the possibility of accelerating the implementation of large investment projects in the energy sector in Uzbekistan.
M. Al Ramahi informed that Masdar plans to start construction: in August 2022 - a wind power plant with a capacity of 500 MW in Navoi region, and in December - photovoltaic stations with a total capacity of 897 MW in Surkhandarya, Jizzakh and Samarkand regions.
The implementation of these projects will help Uzbekistan achieve its goals of increasing the amount of electricity generated from solar and wind energy to 8 GW and bringing the share of alternative energy sources in the country’s total energy balance to 25 percent by 2026, which will reduce Uzbekistan’s energy dependence on gas and coal.
