The traditional annual seminar was organized in collaboration with the Government of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. Corruption is a widespread global problem that affects all aspects of human life and has far-reaching negative consequences for all levels of society and the state. The latest estimates from the United Nations put the global cost of corruption at a whopping US$3.6 trillion a year. This, in turn, is a serious obstacle to sustainable development in the world, especially in developing countries.
The UN Human Rights Council recognizes the growing awareness by the international community of the devastating human rights implications of widespread corruption. This is particularly evident in the case of corruption, which undermines the ability of governments to fulfill their human rights obligations and fully realize the Sustainable Development Goals, leading to increased public mistrust of their governments.
The OIC Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission is responsible for the promotion and protection of all human rights, including the promotion of development rights in the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. In this regard, the international seminar discusses the prospects for the formation of the most optimal model of combating corruption from the point of view of human rights.
It is planned that, based on the results of discussions during the two-day international seminar, its participants will adopt a final document.
The IPCHR is an independent structure of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, which operates on a regular basis.
