Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 10 December 2020, the National Center for Human Rights (NCHR) of the Republic of Uzbekistan celebrated the International Human Rights Day, which was established in connection with the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the UN in 1948.
"New Uzbekistan and human rights" was the general theme of international events organized by the NCHR.
International Human Rights Day is an opportunity to reaffirm the importance of human rights in building the world the way we want it to be, the importance of such concepts as solidarity, equality, and respect for all humanity. At the UN, the theme of celebrating this day in 2020 was associated with the COVID-19 pandemic and focused on the need for more effective cooperation in ensuring the protection of human rights.
The common theme united four significant events organized by the NCHR: summing up the results of the competition "Digital Economy, Education and Research in Human Rights" and awarding the winners, presentation of new publications on human rights, signing a Memorandum of Cooperation between the National Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights and similar establishment of Malaysia, as well as the ceremony of awarding the laureates of the badge "Inson Huquqlari Himoyasi Uchun" (For the protection of human rights).
Each of these events is the result of the great work of the staff of the National Center and is associated with the implementation of the activities of the "Road Map" of the National Strategy of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Human Rights, approved by the Decree of the President of our country from 22 June 2020.
The competition "Digital Economy, Education and Research in the Field of Human Rights", which was held in 12 nominations, received 70 entries, including websites, infographics, videos, video tutorials, educational literature, articles on human rights. It should be said that despite the fact that such a competition was announced for the first time, young people actively participated in their works in various nominations, showing creativity and great interest in the topic.
All participants in the competition were rewarded with prizes and certificates on behalf of the NCHR and the OSCE Project Coordinator in Uzbekistan.
The activity of the participants of the competition showed not only the interest of young people in human rights, but also the desire to find the most accessible, simple and memorable ways to disseminate knowledge and ways to protect human rights. The Center, together with the International Organization for Migration, also awarded the participants of the competition on the topic of their nominations.
There was a presentation of publications in Braille of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Law "On the Rights of Persons with Disabilities", the release of which is timed to the Day of the Constitution of Uzbekistan and the International Day for the Protection of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and Human Rights.
The signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Cooperation was preceded by numerous meetings and consultations within the framework of the activities of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Samarkand Forum for Human Rights. The parties expressed the hope that the joint activities and their coordination will be useful and fruitful for both countries.
The milestone event of the day was the honoring of the laureates of the first established badge "Inson Huquqlari Himoyasi uchun" (For the protection of human rights).
Its laureates are outstanding public and state figures of science, education, non-profit non-governmental organizations that have contributed to the protection of human rights.
