Navruz holiday in Uzbekistan in the focus of attention of China’s leading media

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The leading Chinese daily newspapers Global Times and China Daily published articles on Navruz holiday in Uzbekistan, Dunyo reported.

As the publications note, the spring holiday of Navruz has been an integral part of the life of many peoples of the East for thousands of years. In Uzbekistan, as in other countries of Central Asia, Navruz was filled with even deeper meaning and content.

The United Nations has declared 21 March as the International Day of Navruz, it is included in the UNESCO List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, newspapers report.

It is emphasized that in Uzbekistan Navruz is widely celebrated in all cities and regions of the country. According to tradition, on the days of the celebration of Naruz, people visit relatives and friends, congratulate each other. Many aspects of this holiday are similar to the Chinese Chunjie holiday.

The publications say that every family prepares such festive Uzbek dishes as plov, kuk samsa, chuchvara, halim and others. But the main treat of the holiday is the sumalak dish, cooked on a wood fire from flour and germinated wheat grains, sometimes with the addition of spices. Sprouted grain is a symbol of life, warmth, abundance and health.

“On the eve of the holiday, a nationwide hashar is also being held for the improvement and landscaping of the country,” Chinese publications emphasize. - Today in Uzbekistan, the state pays great attention to protecting the environment. At the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, in 2021, the nationwide Yashil Makon program was adopted to plant greenery in every city, mahalla and streets. The project aims to plant 200 million seedlings annually across the country over the next five years.”
