Navruz celebrations takes place at WIPO

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 21 March 2019, Navruz celebration was held at the headquarters of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), in Geneva.

It was organized by the Permanent Mission of Uzbekistan together with the diplomatic missions of Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Turkey, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said.

More than 1,000 people became guests of the celebration, including diplomats accredited in Geneva, representatives of media, public and cultural organizations, as well as citizens of Uzbekistan living in Switzerland.

WIPO Assistant Director General Naresh Prasad opened the event with a welcoming speech. He emphasized the importance of Navruz holiday for the people of the region, which symbolizes renewal and new hopes. It was noted that the historical and cultural significance of this holiday confirms its recognition by the UN.

The guests of the event got acquainted with the rich traditions of people of the vast region, enjoyed the music of the folk instruments of the region, including those performed by the Uzbek masters, as well as tasted national dishes.

A presentation of the tourism potential, historical and cultural heritage, as well as the achievements of Uzbekistan during the years of independence was organized.
