Navruz celebrations take place in New York
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) --
Celebrations of Navruz have been held at headquarters of the UN in New York (United States). Diplomatic missions of Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, India, Iran, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan organized the event.
Officials of the UN, representatives of diplomatic corps, international organizations, public and academic circles of the US participated in the celebrations, Jahon news agency said.
The congratulation message of the UN Secretary Ban Ki-moon was read at the event. He underlined special role of Navruz, uniting people and demonstrating rich cultural heritage, helping to strengthen dialogue and respect among people. Ban Ki-moon said that Navruz is becoming actual in current conditions.
Uzbek representatives briefed the participants on celebration of Navruz in Uzbekistan and its meaning to people of the country. A video about Uzbekistan, covering rich cultural heritage and traditions of Uzbekistan, was shown at the event.
