Natalia Gherman: “The Joint Action Plan for the Implementation of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy in Central Asia has become the first document of its kind in the world”

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Joint Action Plan for the Implementation of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy in Central Asia has become the first document of its kind in the world. This assessment was shared by the head of the Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, Natalia Gherman, during the High-Level International Conference: “Regional cooperation of Central Asian countries within the framework of the Joint Action Plan for the Implementation of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy”, held on 3-4 March in Tashkent.

As Natalia Gherman noted, ten years ago Ashgabat adopted a Joint Action Plan for the implementation of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy in Central Asia. It was the first document of its kind in the world, which outlined the collective efforts of countries in the Central Asian region.

In her opinion, the common understanding of the states of the region on the issues of violent extremism and terrorism and the desire to cooperate at the regional level contributed to the adoption of such a unique document.

The international conference has become a practical implementation of the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, put forward at the 75th session of the UN General Assembly.

The event is organized by the ISMI under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, as well as the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT), the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA) and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
