Muslims of Uzbekistan to meet Ramadan on 1 August

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Muslims of Uzbekistan will meet start of holly Ramadan month on 1 August 2011. During 30 days, Muslims will fast and refrain from eating and drinking.

President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov signed a resolution on appropriate holding holy Ramadan month on 26 July 2011.

Uzbek President ordered local authorities and public organizations to adopt measures on holding Ramadan month in line with the national customs.

Ramadan is a Islamic month of fasting, in which participating Muslims refrain from eating and drinking and is intended to teach Muslims about patience, humility, and spirituality.

The fasting is mandatory for all, except pregnant, nursing mothers, as well as children, sick persons and travelling people.
