Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- In Brussels, Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov met with Vice President of the European Commission Margaritis Schinas.

During the dialogue, key issues on the agenda of bilateral cooperation in the political, trade, economic and investment spheres, as well as in the areas of regional cooperation and security were considered.

The European side welcomed the approval of the Development Strategy of Uzbekistan for 2022-2026 and the importance it attaches to measures for sustainable development, ensuring the rights and freedoms of citizens, the rule of law and strengthening the role of civil society, and also expressed its readiness to support the promotion and implementation of large-scale social - economic reforms in the country. Mutual commitment was also expressed to the high-quality and timely implementation of the agreements reached during the visit of M. Schinas to Uzbekistan in November last year.

Significant potential was noted in the further expansion of the economic partnership of Uzbekistan with the EU countries, meaning an increase in the number of joint investment projects and an increase in the volume of mutual trade.

There was also an exchange of views on issues of the regional agenda. The parties stressed the importance of events dedicated to the development of regional cooperation scheduled for the near future, including the EU-Central Asia summit.

As a result of the meeting, further steps were identified for the development of multifaceted bilateral cooperation and an agreement was reached to intensify dialogue in all the areas of cooperation considered.
