Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The draft law "On amendments and additions to some legislative acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan in connection with improving the protection of flora objects" was today considered in the first reading at a meeting of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis.
The bill increases criminal and administrative liability for illegal felling, destruction, uprooting, damage or replanting trees, bushes and other plants.
“This document introduces amendments to the Criminal Code. It envisages the strengthening of sanctions by doubling the amount of fines. In addition, the Code of Administrative Responsibility establishes the confiscation of tools and objects that were the direct subject of administrative offenses for an offense committed in this area. In general, the adoption of the bill will ensure the prevention of illegal logging, uprooting, destruction, damage, transplantation of trees, shrubs, and other plants. Also, by strengthening the personal responsibility of the heads of state bodies, business entities in the field of environmental protection and citizens, it will serve to reduce violations in this direction,” said N. Ismoilov, Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis.
