“Motorica” Launches Inclusive Environment Project in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Motorica, a leading Russian developer of assistive technologies and medical cybernetics, has launched a large-scale social initiative in Uzbekistan titled “Accessible Environment”, in partnership with the Republican Center for the Social Adaptation of Children (RCSAC) and the patient advocacy organization SMA Oilasi.

The project aims not only to provide children with disabilities with modern wheelchairs but also to promote the development of an inclusive society and infrastructure tailored to the needs of people with limited mobility. It also advocates the concept of functional adaptation.

Targeting a wide audience — students, youth, and Tashkent residents — the project includes a series of scientific and practical lectures in local universities, as well as charity photo zones and branded donation boxes in city parks and shopping centers. The first phase will culminate in the “SMA School” conference in October 2025.

This conference will bring together international and local experts, government officials, and representatives from the professional and patient communities, serving as a platform for experience-sharing and joint decision-making.

At the same time, a specialized rehabilitation course for children with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) will be launched at RCSAC. The program includes individual hydrotherapy, physical and respiratory therapy, and occupational therapy using modern rehabilitation equipment.

Andrei Davidyuk, CEO of Motorika, emphasized that the “Accessible Environment” project is aimed at ensuring that every child, regardless of health condition, can live a full life, move freely, and pursue their dreams. Special attention is being given to equipping children with severe disabilities with custom-designed wheelchairs that meet safety, comfort, and individual user needs.

There is a growing demand in Uzbekistan for both motorized and mechanical wheelchairs for children with Group I and II disabilities, especially among those diagnosed with SMA. Motorica is actively addressing this need with more than 30 wheelchair models tailored to a child’s height, weight, and mobility level, as well as a wide range of supporting products.

Founded in 2015, Motorica is a pioneer in the CIS in assistive technologies and medical cybernetics. The company develops functional prosthetic limbs, wheelchairs, and neuroimplants for treating nervous system disorders. It has produced over 8,000 assistive devices to date.

The company’s production site is located in Moscow’s Technopolis SEZ and is operated under lean manufacturing principles. In 2024, Motorica acquired a controlling stake in one of Russia’s largest wheelchair manufacturers, the Special Equipment Plant, with an annual production capacity of over 40,000 units.

In collaboration with leading research institutions, including FMBA, Skolkovo Institute, and Far Eastern Federal University, Motorica conducts cutting-edge research on tactile-sensitive prosthetics and technologies for managing phantom limb pain.

Participants in these studies are already able to distinguish the hardness and size of objects using their prosthetic limbs. The company is actively seeking volunteers with amputations to participate in ongoing research.
