Mother and Daughter Detained in Andijan Region Attempting to Smuggle Gold Worth 819 Million Soums
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In Andijan region, authorities have prevented an attempt to illegally export nearly one billion soums worth of gold.
During a joint operation by the State Security Service and customs authorities, a mother and daughter were detained while trying to transport gold bars through the “Dustlik” border customs post in the Khodjaabad district.
The suspects — a 41-year-old resident of the Balykchi district and her 20-year-old daughter — had concealed seven gold bars weighing a total of 473 grams under their clothing, valued at 819 million soums. The plan was to transport the gold into the territory of Kyrgyzstan.
A criminal case has been opened under Article 182, Part 2, Paragraph “a” of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan (violation of customs regulations involving a particularly large amount). Investigative actions are currently ongoing.
