Mosinzhproekt and Doğuş Holding to Take Part in Building Tashkent’s New Metro Line

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 16 June, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed a number of forward-looking projects aimed at developing the capital’s public transport system.

The focus was on the construction of a new metro line that will connect Tashkent with the administrative hub of the future city of New Tashkent, as well as the extension of the existing Chilanzar Line to the city’s main bus terminal at TTZ.

The project envisions a 21-kilometre metro route with nine stations. It will start from the “Dustlik” station (formerly known as “Chkalov”) and terminate in the centre of New Tashkent.

The new line is expected to handle up to 230,000 passengers per day. Construction will employ both underground and elevated technologies, with key partners including Turkish conglomerate Doğuş Holding, architectural firm Arccon Project, and the Russian engineering giant Mosinzhproekt.

Deputy Minister of Construction and Housing and Communal Services Davronjon Adilov, speaking to “Uzbekistan 24” TV channel, stated that active construction is currently underway at the intersection of New Uzbekistan Street, the Olympic Village, and the adjacent park—where the third station of the future line is being built.

Founded in 1951 by Ayhan Sahenk, Doğuş Holding encompasses more than 250 companies in sectors ranging from construction and automotive to media and hospitality. The group has participated in metro projects in Türkiye, India (Mumbai), and Bulgaria (Sofia).

Mosinzhproekt, fully owned by the Government of Moscow, has been the principal contractor for the design and construction of the Moscow Metro since 2011. It boasts more than 170 kilometres of lines and 79 stations launched.

Preliminary estimates put the cost of one kilometre of underground segment, built using the monolithic method, at approximately USD 8 million. A full ride along the new line is expected to take around 24 minutes, with a minimum train interval of six minutes.

During the same presentation, plans were also unveiled for extending the Chilanzar Line to the bus terminal in the TTZ district. This project will be implemented in two phases. The first stage will see the above-ground extension of the line from Pushkin station to the Tashkent Ring Road.

In the second stage, construction of the underground section will begin, running beneath the ring road and reaching into the TTZ area. This part of the project is designed to avoid disrupting surface-level traffic.

According to projections, the extended line will be able to serve up to 85,000 passengers per day, significantly easing traffic congestion in this part of the city.

All these measures aim to create a modern and efficient transport infrastructure in line with the development scale of the new administrative centre.
