Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Center for Economic Research and Reforms (CERR) continuously monitors prices in the domestic market. In particular, the analysis of price changes in Uzbekistan for basic food products for the period from 26 May to 30 June 2021 in the context of regions, districts and cities was carried out.
Focus on potatoes
According to the operational data of the State Statistics Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the average price in the republic by the end of the month per kilogram of potatoes decreased by 18.3% to 3,337 soums. The level of average prices was in the range from 1,600 soums per kilogram in Surkhandarya region to 5,000 soums in Tashkent.
The decline in prices for potatoes indicates the stabilization of the situation in the domestic market.
A decrease in prices for potatoes is observed in 12 regions. Thus, the greatest decline was recorded in Khorezm (by 25.8%), Ferghana (by 25.6%), Surkhandarya (by 24.6%) and Namangan (by 23.8%) regions.
In terms of districts, the top 5 districts with the highest prices per kilogram of potatoes were headed by Yangiyulsky (5000 soums / kg), Mirzo-Ulugbeksky (4913 soums / kg), Chilanzar (4848 soums / kg), Yunusabad (4720 soums / kg) and Kibray ( 4586 soums / kg) regions.
During the period under review, an increase in average prices in the republic was recorded in three products: for beef (by 1.0% or 61,867 soums per kg), milk (by 1.2% or 6,160 per liter), sugar (by 1, 0% or 8 492 soums per kg).
In the context of regions, the largest price increase was recorded for:
- beef in Khorezm (by 5.0%), Kashkadarya (by 1.7%) regions, as well as in the Republic of Karakalpakstan (by 1.7%) and in Tashkent (by 1.8%);
- milk in Andijan (by 5.4%), Samarkand (by 3.3%) regions;
- sugar in Surkhandarya (by 4.1%), Bukhara (by 3.2%) regions and Tashkent city (by 2.4%);
A decrease in average prices for the week in the republic is noted for eggs (by 7.8% or 9,834 soums per ten), potatoes (by 18.3% or 3,337 soums per kg), rice (by 0.3% or 10,123 per kg), vegetable oil (by 0.9% to 18,804 soums per liter) and wheat flour (by 0.1% or 4,873 soums per kg).
In the context of regions, the largest price reduction was recorded for:
- beef in Navoi region (-3.0%);
- milk in Syrdarya (-3.2%) and Khorezm (-2.1%) regions;
- eggs in Surkhandarya (-17.3%), Jizzakh (-11.5%), Namangan (-10.7%) regions;
- potatoes in Khorezm (-25.8%), Fergana (-25.6%), Surkhandarya (-24.6%), Namangan (-23.8%) regions;
- rice in Andijan (-2.6%), Samarkand (-1.3%), Kashkadarya (-0.8%) regions;
- wheat flour in Namangan (-4.8%), Navoi (-1.6%) regions;
- sugar in Khorezm (-2.1%), Syrdarya (-1.5%) regions;
In Uzbekistan, over the period under review, the price environment for basic consumer goods is characterized by relatively low volatility. Compared to a month earlier, prices for eggs, potatoes, rice, vegetable oil and wheat flour showed a decline, while the dynamics of growth in prices for beef, milk and sugar slowed down significantly.
