Modern Transport Infrastructure Lays the Foundation for Tourism Growth in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan is implementing an extensive program for the development of transport infrastructure and the tourism sector, initiated by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
As a result of consistent reforms and investments, by 2030 the number of international tourists visiting the country could reach 25 million, while domestic tourism may reach 50 million.
The development of a modern transport network, improvement of service quality, and creation of comfortable conditions for travelers are considered key factors for sustainable growth in tourist flows and for strengthening the country’s image as a major destination in Central Asia.
Next-Generation Airports
In recent years, Uzbekistan has built and renovated modern international airports, bringing the total number to 18, with another 7 regional airports undergoing modernization to meet international standards.
Special attention is being given to the construction of a new international airport in Tashkent Region, which will become one of the largest in the region and significantly increase the capital’s air traffic capacity.
Currently, 51 airlines operate regular flights from Uzbekistan to countries in the Middle East, Europe, and Asia, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Korea, China, India, Malaysia, Turkey, Russia, and Poland.
The delivery of 22 new Boeing aircraft from the United States will expand routes to Southeast Asia, Europe, the USA, and other countries, opening new opportunities for tourists and business travelers.
Accessibility and Comfort Across All Regions
At the same time, domestic transport infrastructure is being actively modernized. New high-speed electric trains and e-buses are being put into operation, vehicle fleets are being updated, and modern roads and transport hubs are being constructed.
The development of transport networks takes into account the tourist potential of the regions, creating convenient routes between cultural and natural attractions, historical centers, and recreational areas.
With the implementation of digital technologies in transport services—online ticket sales, electronic information boards, and route tracking systems—traveling across the country is becoming increasingly convenient for visitors and residents alike.
Tourism as a Driver of the National Economy
While previous forecasts estimated 15 million international tourists by 2030, ongoing projects and the expansion of the aviation network could nearly double this figure.
Updated forecasts suggest that by 2030 Uzbekistan could welcome up to 25 million international tourists, with a monthly visitor flow exceeding 2 million people.
Such growth directly supports small business development, job creation, higher employment, and strengthens Uzbekistan’s position as a hub of international tourism in Central Asia.
Infrastructure of the Future
Creating a modern, safe, and environmentally sustainable transport system is a priority of state policy. These measures aim not only to enhance tourism appeal but also to improve the quality of life, develop regions, and integrate the country into global transport and tourism flows.
Infrastructure development is an investment in the future, forming the foundation for long-term growth in tourism, business activity, and international cooperation.
