The President of Uzbekistan sent a message to the President of the Republic of Korea Moon Jae-in on the occasion of the successful holding of the inter-Korean summit.

"I sincerely congratulate you on successful holding of the inter-Korean summit on 27 April 2018 in Panmunjom, which has become a truly historic event in the chronicles of the Korean people," the message of Shavkat Mirziyoyev reads.

"The breakthrough results of this meeting, which was at the center of attention of the entire world community, became possible due to your resolute position and tireless efforts to implement a peace-loving course aimed at improving relations between the Republic of Korea and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, ensuring global security and stability, and strengthening confidence in the region, " the President noted.

"The warm and friendly atmosphere of the talks and the resulting Panhmunjom Declaration on Peace, Prosperity and Unification of the Korean Peninsula, which enshrined the most important agreements on rapprochement of the two countries, development of political, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian contacts, give hope and confidence to the start of a new era of partnership between the Republic of Korea and the DPRK," the Uzbek leader said.

"Uzbekistan, as the initiator of establishment of a nuclear-weapon-free zone in Central Asia, fully supports the process of denuclearization on the Korean peninsula, which will undoubtedly serve to further development of inter-Korean relations and promotion of integration in the region," the President said.

"I would particularly like to note your initiative to restore rail and road communications. This will open new prospects for expanding the cooperation of the Korean peninsula with the countries of the vast Eurasian region, including Central Asia, its transformation into a continent with a single logistics system and intensive trade and economic ties," he said.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev said that Uzbekistan, being a strategic partner of the Republic of Korea, will continue to firmly support the active practical steps of the Korean people on the way to rapprochement, stability and security on the Korean peninsula in the name of general prosperity and progress.

"I am convinced that the blessed day will come when the long-term dream of the Korean people to unite separated families and restore ties will come true, and this region will acquire lasting peace and prosperity," the President said.
