Mirziyoyev Supports Development of Alternative Energy with Chinese Companies
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with executives of leading Chinese companies to discuss the expansion of practical cooperation and the advancement of joint projects in modern energy technologies and engineering solutions.
The meeting highlighted growing interest from Chinese companies in investing in Uzbekistan. This year alone, more than US$15 billion in direct Chinese investments are expected, with the total portfolio of joint initiatives approaching US$90 billion.
Energy was emphasized as a key area of multifaceted cooperation. More than 30 projects are currently being implemented with Chinese partners, totaling nearly 10 gigawatts of capacity and over US$9 billion in investment. Today, an additional 14 projects worth around US$2 billion were launched.
Discussions with Zhou Yuanlong, President of China Datang, covered expanding existing and building new photovoltaic plants, creating additional energy storage capacities, workforce development, and the establishment of a scientific laboratory. The integration of renewable energy technologies in agriculture and animal husbandry was also considered.
With executives from China Energy Engineering Corporation, the implementation of solar power plants and energy storage systems was praised, alongside the importance of further developing alternative energy and high-voltage networks.
Meng Qinglin, Chairman of Sinoma Energy, reported progress on a wind power plant, a turbine blade localization plant, and technologies for reducing emissions in the chemical and construction industries. Meetings with Universal Energy, China General Technology, and Poly Changda Engineering focused on accelerating wind farm construction, efficient operation of a new cogeneration plant, expanding investments, and developing energy storage systems to complement solar projects.
President Mirziyoyev expressed support for these initiatives, emphasizing their role in modernizing Uzbekistan’s energy sector and advancing sustainable, high-tech solutions.
