Mirziyoyev Reviews Economic and Infrastructure Plans for Kashkadarya

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 10 March 2026, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting to assess the effectiveness of ongoing reforms and determine priority tasks in Kashkadarya region.

The discussion focused on industrial growth, agriculture, tourism, and infrastructure development. Kashkadarya’s potential stems from its vast territory, rich natural resources, developed industries, and hardworking population.

In 2025, the region’s gross regional product (GRP) grew by 6.8%, industry by 7.2%, services by 13.6%, and agriculture by 4.3%. Between 2017 and 2025, per capita GRP increased 3.2 times to 26.9 million soms, while unemployment and poverty fell to 4.9% and 6.5%, respectively.

For 2026, plans include industrial growth of 8.6%, attracting US$3.5 billion in investment, and exporting US$727 million worth of products. The program covers 195 industrial projects totaling US$1.7 billion, expansion of production capacities, and creation of micro-industrial hubs, including textile, clothing, hygiene products, agricultural machinery, fiber-cement panels, and electric vehicle charging stations.

The Mubarek Special Innovative Industrial Zone and Karshi Green Technology Industrial Zone will host 36 projects worth over US$1.1 billion in 2026–2027, creating around 6,000 jobs.

Social support measures include establishing 48,000 businesses and implementing 31,000 microprojects with preferential loans and subsidies exceeding 820 billion soms, targeting unemployment and poverty reduction to 3% in some districts.

Agricultural development plans involve cultivating 200,000 hectares, increasing cereal yields to 84.8 centners, cotton to 47.5 centners, and potatoes to 175 centners. Water-saving technologies, upgraded pumping stations, and canal concreting are expected to save up to 800 million cubic meters of water.

Water supply projects include delivering water to Karshi from the Gissarak reservoir, reconstructing sewage networks, and building 416 km of water pipelines. Tourism development will focus on the Maidanak highland resort, the Gelon year-round resort for 13,000 visitors, trekking routes, and camping sites, with 45 hotels and guesthouses opening in 2026, adding 1,130 beds.

Infrastructure investments cover roads, water supply, irrigation, and electricity networks across 2 districts and 46 mahallas, and 3 districts and 108 mahallas in challenging conditions.

Social programs support women and families, with the creation of kindergartens and schools, vocational training for 21,000 women, and assistance to 102,000 women under the “Women’s Notebook” program.

Labor migration and vocational training initiatives will continue in cooperation with Germany, sending 3,000 youth in 2026 and 5,000 in 2027 to work in Germany. A Center for Education and Technology will be established in Karshi for training purposes.

President Mirziyoyev instructed authorities to strictly monitor the implementation of these tasks, ensure investment and export targets are met, create new jobs, and improve living standards in Kashkadarya region.
