Mirziyoyev Criticizes Tashkent Cybercrime Department for Low Efficiency

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 27 January, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev sharply criticized the performance of the Cybercrime Department, established three years ago within the Ministry of Internal Affairs, emphasizing the lack of tangible results in combating digital crime.

Official data indicate that in 2025 more than 16,000 cybercrimes were registered in Tashkent, causing material damage to citizens totaling nearly 2 trillion soums. At the same time, the resolution rate for such crimes did not exceed 8 percent.

The head of state drew attention to the active exploitation by offenders of vulnerabilities in the banking system, the public’s trust, and low levels of digital literacy.

“I have resolved all issues in this area for the internal affairs and prosecutor’s offices. Where is the result? When will the protection systems in banks and payment organizations be fully implemented?” the president demanded of the responsible officials.
