Mirziyoyev Calls for Formation of Young and Competent Leadership Corps in Law Enforcement
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized the urgent need to establish a corps of young, highly competent, and demanding leaders within the country’s law enforcement system.
Speaking at a meeting in Tashkent on Tuesday, he noted that the maximum service age in law enforcement is 55 for colonels and 60 for generals, yet more than 300 individuals exceeding these limits continue to hold leadership positions.
At the same time, the president highlighted that all senior personnel in the Ministry of Emergency Situations are under 50 years old, serving as a positive example.
He stressed the importance of transitioning to a system in which young specialists are appointed to leadership roles, while experienced employees of retirement age are engaged as mentors, trainers, or supervisors for youth-focused initiatives in local communities.
The meeting was conducted in a highly critical tone: the president announced dismissals and disciplinary measures against several officials, criticized agency performance amid rising crime, and pointed out instances of embezzlement.
