Ministry of Justice refuses to register the party “Haqiqat va Taraqqiyot”

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - The Ministry of Justice of Uzbekistan refused to register the Social Democratic Party Haqiqat va Taraqqiyot (Truth and Development) due to shortages in the documents provided. This was reported by the press service of the department.

The ministry noted that the department’s specialists twice examined the documents for registering the party.

The agency claims that the party has provided documents with an increase in the laws "On political parties" and "On non-governmental non-profit organizations."

In particular, Article 6 of the Law on Political Parties was violated. The article notes that in order to create a political party, it is necessary to have at least 20 thousand signatures of citizens living in at least eight territorial subjects (regions), including the Republic of Karakalpakstan and the city of Tashkent, and intending to unite into a party.

The Ministry of Justice notes that the Haqiqat va Taraqqiyot party provided more than 9,870 signatures (on 7 April 2021 – 7,675 (additionally 944) and on 7 June 2021 – 1,254).

During the examination of the documents, it was revealed that 42 citizens who were included in the list had died. The ministry also received 2,292 applications to withdraw signatures.

The Ministry of Justice recalled that in accordance with Article 6 of the Law "On Political Parties", the organizing committee has the right to operate for no more than three months from the date of its creation, and after that the committee must stop its activities and collect signatures.
