Ministry of Energy Reports: Electricity and Gas Production Exceeds Planned Targets as of January 20
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 20 January, energy companies in Uzbekistan ensured stable supply of electricity and natural gas to the population despite increased demand and cold weather.
According to the Ministry of Energy, power plants produced 272.8 million kWh of electricity on that day, exceeding the planned target by 6%, while 249.2 million kWh were delivered to consumers.
Natural gas consumption amounted to 145.5 million cubic meters, including 1.5 million cubic meters supplied for transportation through gas refueling compressor stations.
Production of liquefied gas reached 2,300 tons, 9% above plan, with 2,200 tons supplied to households and social facilities, and a reserve of 6.9 thousand tons maintained at regional gas refueling stations.
Market trading showed stable demand: 12,000 tons of gasoline and 25,000 tons of diesel fuel were released, with 5,000 tons of gasoline and 11,275 tons of diesel sold. The entire volume of 2,300 tons of liquefied gas offered on the exchange was sold.
Mining and production operations at enterprises under the Ministry are conducted around the clock. Emergency response teams are fully prepared and equipped. On January 20, four electrical grid failures and one gas supply incident were resolved.
Temporary power outages occurred in some districts of Kashkadarya region and Tashkent, affecting several thousand consumers; all outages were promptly restored. In Surkhandarya region, in Kumkurgan district and city, gas supply was temporarily cut off to 4,400 households and 70 wholesale consumers due to a leak; the emergency was resolved by 16:00.
The Ministry notes that 24/7 call centers operate to respond to consumer requests. On January 20, 18,035 inquiries were received, all of which were addressed.
In Bukhara, Navoi, Karshi, Yangiyul, and other regions, illegal connections to electricity and gas networks were detected, including the use of equipment without meters and unauthorized hookups. The total damage from identified cases amounted to hundreds of millions of soums; materials have been transferred to law enforcement agencies.
To prevent emergencies and ensure uninterrupted operations during winter, 1,479 specialized crews with over 7,596 employees are working round-the-clock.
The Ministry urges citizens to strictly follow safety rules when using heating appliances and gas equipment, avoid energy overconsumption, and turn off electrical devices when not in use.
