Ministry of Energy: Electricity consumption has exceeded the historical maximum

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Last week, due to abnormally hot weather, electricity consumption reached a historic high, the Ministry of Energy said.

Thus, in the summer season of last year, the average daily electricity consumption in the country amounted to 224 million kWh.

In the current year, on 22 July, electricity consumption per day amounted to 237 million kWh, or 6% more than last year, which was the maximum value not only for this summer period, but for the whole year.

It should be noted that electricity consumption in the city of Tashkent this summer reached historical levels and, in addition, exceeded the figure for the autumn-winter period, when demand for electricity was traditionally the highest.

So, if in the autumn-winter season of 2021/2022 the maximum daily consumption in the city of Tashkent amounted to 24 million kWh, then on 22 July 2022 this figure was 27.5 million kWh more by 15%.

Such an increase in consumption is certainly due to the construction of new buildings, the start-up of industrial enterprises, as well as the fact that the daily electricity consumption in some households has reached 1000 kWh, which is more than the usual consumption of electricity by households for 4-5 months.

The Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan also recalls that the health of the entire power supply system and the ability to avoid its overloads, which can lead to large-scale emergencies, depend on an economical attitude to electricity consumption on these hot days.
