Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – Uzbekistan attaches great importance to ensuring the foodsecurity of the population, growing products that are in high demand in the domestic market, and forming the necessary reserves. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan.
GRAIN AND FLOUR
In this regard, in order to provide the population with wheat and flour products, this year 1 million 27 thousand hectares of land were sown with wheat in the country. As a result, it is planned to harvest 7 million 679 thousand tons of crops in June-July this year. This figure is 1 million tons more compared to last year’s figure.
In addition, 6 million 656 thousand tons of wheat were grown in 2021, of which 2 million 533 thousand tons were stored as a republican reserve at the regional enterprises of Uzdonmakhsulot, 4 million 123 thousand tons remained at the disposal of farmers and the population.
By the end of last year, the private sector imported 2 million 771 thousand tons of wheat and 357.7 thousand tons of flour, mainly from the Republic of Kazakhstan and 26.8 thousand tons of wheat (94% to the Republic of Tajikistan and 6% to the Republic of Kyrgyzstan) and 949.1 thousand tons of flour (at the expense of 1 million 265 thousand tons of wheat) were exported to the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.
SUGAR
To guarantee the provision of the population with sugar products in 2022, it is planned to produce 600,000 tons of products in the country.
Also in 2021, 595.5 thousand tons of sugar (315.1% by 2020) were produced by the enterprises of Angren Shakar LLC and Khorezm Shakar LLC.
In order to meet the needs of the population in these products, these enterprises sold at least 30 thousand tons of sugar per month on the commodity exchange in 2021 and January-February 2022.
By the end of last year, Brazil imported 23 thousand tons of sugar (344 thousand tons less than in the previous period) and 620 thousand tons of raw sugar (423 thousand tons more than in the previous period), and 25 tons of sugar was exported to the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. Temporary restrictions imposed by the Russian Federation will not affect the volume of these consumer products in the country.
It should be noted that Presidential resolution No. PP-3818 envisages the introduction of a customs duty rate of 20% of the cost of white sugar and a 20% excise tax on sugar imports in accordance with Article 289 of the Tax Code.
In March-May 2022, another 180 thousand tons of raw materials will be received from suppliers. In addition, in June-October of this year, it is planned to import 200 thousand tons of raw sugar.
It follows from the above that measures have been taken in the country to ensure uninterrupted supply of wheat, flour and sugar, as well as to prevent sharp price fluctuations in domestic markets.
