Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – On 20 September 2022, on the sidelines of the 77th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, a ministerial meeting of the Group of Friends of the Global Development Initiative was held under the chairmanship of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, Wang Yi.
The event was attended by heads of foreign ministries from over 30 countries of the world and heads of UN agencies and international organizations.
The head of the delegation of Uzbekistan, Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Norov, in his speech, said that the Group of Friends of the Global Development Initiatives is an important platform for the exchange of views and best practices to accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
Information was presented on the reforms being carried out in Uzbekistan within the framework of the Development Strategy of New Uzbekistan, as well as the ongoing work on the implementation of the Agenda for Sustainable Development for the period up to 2030.
It was proposed to intensify cooperation in the field of ensuring food security, supporting the food supply chain with the creation of "green corridors" to accelerate the implementation of the SDGs.
The need to strengthen cooperation on the climate agenda was emphasized. The importance of studying effective ways to fulfill international obligations to decarbonize the economy, combat desertification, preserve biodiversity, and develop alternative energy was noted.
