Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 29 November, UN Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of human rights while countering terrorism Fionnuala Ni Aolain visited the Ministry of Justice of Uzbekistan.
The Minister of Justice Ruslanbek Davletov informed Fionnuala Ni Aolain about the work carried out in the Republic of Uzbekistan to combat international terrorism and extremism. He noted that in the fight against terrorism and extremism, the government of Uzbekistan pays special attention to identifying and eliminating conditions and causes that contribute to their spread.
Ruslanbek Davletov also noted that the measures taken in Uzbekistan against terrorism are fully consistent with the national legislation and international legal obligations of the country. In particular, it was reported on recent reforms to implement Uzbekistan's international obligations in the field of human rights and freedoms, including the prevention of torture, freedom of conscience and religious organizations, the development of NGOs and other civil society institutions, and gender equality.
In turn, Fionnuala Ni Aolain highly appreciated the scale and effectiveness of reforms in Uzbekistan over the past five years. In particular, the special rapporteur especially noted the measures of the government of the republic on the return of its citizens from the conflict zones in the Middle East and in Afghanistan, as well as on the rehabilitation and reintegration of the returned citizens.
According to Fionnuala Ni Aolain, Uzbekistan is one of the leading countries in the world in this area, and Uzbekistan's experience in this area can serve as a model for other countries.
During the event, an agreement was reached to continue bilateral cooperation.
