MIA: No Deaths Reported During Investigative Procedures in Uzbekistan Over the Past Two Years
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — No deaths among suspects during investigative procedures have been recorded in Uzbekistan over the past two years, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Ramazan Ashrapov stated.
According to him, no such incidents occurred in 2024–2025. The last case was registered in 2023 in Yukorichirchik district, where a Kazakh citizen died of a heart attack during questioning.
“That incident was captured on surveillance cameras, while expert conclusions and witness testimonies confirmed the absence of unlawful actions by law enforcement officers. The Prosecutor’s Office also found no elements of a crime,” Ashrapov noted.
He emphasized that all interrogation rooms across the country are now equipped with video cameras, and the questioning process is strictly regulated under Ministry of Internal Affairs Order No. 101, which requires that procedures take place only in specially designated facilities.
“Such measures protect not only citizens but also officers from potential unfounded accusations. During my tenure, there have been no deaths in the course of investigative actions — neither in internal affairs bodies nor in investigative departments,” the deputy minister stated.
