Methane Fuel Stations in Uzbekistan Face Temporary Restrictions Amid Cold Weather
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan has temporarily restricted the operation of automobile methane gas filling stations due to a surge in demand for natural gas amid unusually cold weather, the Ministry of Energy announced on Tuesday.
In the capital, Tashkent, methane stations were closed, while liquefied gas (propane) stations continued to operate. The ministry explained that dropping temperatures in several regions led to a sharp increase in natural gas consumption, causing a decrease in pipeline pressure.
The ministry stressed that priority is being given to supplying gas to households, medical and educational facilities, and public transport.
"These measures are only introduced during cold days and aim to ensure stable gas supply for the population. Restrictions will be lifted as the situation stabilizes," the ministry said.
Operating hours for methane stations have not been specified. The Ministry of Energy noted that each region will determine station schedules individually, depending on current conditions.
