Members of the National Commission on action against trafficking in persons and forced labor meet with representatives of the US Department of Labor

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 17 December, a meeting of the delegation of Uzbekistan led by the Chairperson of the National Commission on Combating Trafficking in Persons and Forced Labor Tanzila Narbaeva with representatives of the US delegation led by Deputy Undersecretary for International Affairs Thea Lee was held in the format of videoconference.

During the dialogue, detailed information was first given about the work carried out in our country to combat trafficking in persons and forced labor, in particular, to improve national legislation in accordance with international standards, ensure labor rights of workers, as well as develop international cooperation in this area.

During the meeting, US Deputy Undersecretary for International Affairs Thea Lee highly appreciated the work on counteracting forced labor in Uzbekistan and preventing any manifestations of it. The importance of further development of bilateral cooperation in this direction was especially emphasized.

In recent years, within the framework of interaction between the parties, one of the important steps in ensuring the rights of the child is to strengthen criminal liability for cases of exploitation of minors for various mercenary purposes, persuading them to participate in the activities of illegal public associations.

In addition, they discussed the prospects for the further development of the Uzbek-American cooperation in protecting the labor rights of citizens in the country, introducing the principles of decent work. An exchange of views took place on topical issues on the agenda.

Upon completion of the event, the parties agreed to continue interaction in this direction, to carry out bilateral joint projects.
