Meeting of the CIS Joint Commission on Combating Illegal Migration Held in Samarkand
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A meeting of the Joint Commission of the CIS member states under the Agreement on Cooperation in Combating Illegal Migration was held in Samarkand, according to the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.
Representatives from Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, as well as the CIS Anti-Terrorism Center and the CIS Executive Committee participated in the event.
During the meeting, the participants exchanged information on measures being implemented to combat illegal migration, strengthen control over migration flows, improve national legislation, and enhance the effectiveness of migration administration.
It was noted that CIS countries continue to actively work on preventing and addressing violations of migration regulations and improving readmission mechanisms. The participants emphasized the importance of sharing experience in using modern information technologies for the registration and accounting of foreign citizens.
The Commission supported the initiative to post informational leaflets for foreign citizens on the official websites of migration authorities, providing clear guidance on entry and residence rules. Issues concerning illegal legalization and naturalization of foreigners, as well as training and retraining of personnel involved in migration control, were also discussed.
As part of the meeting, delegations visited the situation center of the Samarkand Regional Department of Internal Affairs, where practical methods for ensuring migration security and preventing offenses among foreign citizens were presented.
At the conclusion of the discussions, the parties reaffirmed their commitment to further cooperation in migration policy and agreed to hold the next meeting of the Joint Commission in the second half of 2026 in Kazakhstan.
