Meeting of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly Council: Outcomes and prospects for cooperation
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The parliamentary delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan, headed by Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Tanzila Narbayeva, continues to participate in the spring session events of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States (IPA CIS).
As part of the visit, the delegation took part in a meeting of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly Council.
Opening the session, Valentina Matviyenko, Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council and Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, praised the outcomes of the 150th anniversary Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union held in Tashkent. She commended the high level of organization, professionalism, and dedication demonstrated by the Uzbek side in hosting foreign delegations, and expressed her gratitude to Tanzila Narbayeva and her team for the successful execution of the forum.
In her remarks, Senate Chairperson Tanzila Narbayeva emphasized the importance of active participation by CIS parliamentary delegations in shaping final documents and promoting key initiatives. She reaffirmed Uzbekistan’s commitment to continued close cooperation in the preparation and hosting of international forums.
During the meeting, members of the Council discussed current agenda items, with special attention given to the outcomes of election campaign monitoring in CIS countries carried out by international observers from the IPA CIS.
Akmal Eshmuratov, head of the IPA CIS observer mission and Chair of the Senate Committee of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan on Judicial-Legal Issues and Anti-Corruption, delivered a report on the observation of the parliamentary elections held in the Republic of Tajikistan on March 2, 2025.
The session also reviewed the activities of the IPA CIS for the year 2024 and addressed organizational matters related to the upcoming international summits.
