Meeting of CIS railway administrations takes place in Moldavia

Chairperson of the Council on railway transport of the CIS and President of Russian Railways Vladimir Yakunin summed up the results of the session.

Speaking about foreign trade transportation, he underlined positive dynamics of the volume of cargo transportation in containers, the press service of the Russian Railways said.

He said that forecasts for 2013 are quite encouraging, mainly due to growth of international transport communication with China and Asian-Pacific region.

Yakunin said that the quality of inter-modal services is attracting clients more and more, which decreases transit time. He said that there are good experience of good transportations from Germany to Russia.

He said that development of new logistic schemes to attract new additional cargo flow in the CIS railway network. He noted that there are huge reserves for container freight transportation. At the same time, it was noted that it is necessary to improve customs procedures and simplify customs control of container freights, first of all, transit goods.

The sides considered work of the Council on developing international passenger communication. It was noted that a draft agreement on organizational cross-border commuter (regional) railway communication.

Vladimir Yakunin said that this project has no analogue in railway community. The draft agreement envisages of organization of cross-border commuter railway communication, mechanism of registration and implementation of train documents, tariffs and preferences, etc.

It was noted that Belarus, Kazakhstan, Moldavia, Russia and Ukraine are ready to sign the agreement.

Russian official said that integration processes in the Eurasian area provide unique chance to railway administrations to unite their efforts. It was underlined that it is planned to create United transport-logistic company, which will provide railway transportation and logistics services and intermodal transportations.

In the result of the session, the participants signed a protocol of the session and approved several inter-governmental normative documents in railway transport sphere.

The 60th session of the Council will be held in spring 2014 in Kazakhstan.
