Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- During 2021, the Ombudsman and Public Groups under the Ombudsman conducted 177 monitoring visits to places of detention of persons with limited freedom of movement. Collective dialogues were held with more than 4.5 thousand citizens and individual – with 758. This was reported by the head of the information service of the Oliy Majlis Commissioner for Human Rights Fatima Madrakhimova.

In the reporting year, the Ombudsman received 6,104 applications from persons in closed institutions, their close relatives and lawyers. 2119 appeals were received directly from the persons in them.

It is noted that the prosecutor’s office made decisions to refuse to initiate criminal proceedings on 11 complaints on the basis of the relevant paragraphs of Article 83 of the Criminal Code. These decisions were canceled by the higher authorities of the prosecutor’s office on the basis of the Ombudsman’s control letter and an additional check was carried out.

Based on the results of internal audits conducted on the basis of these complaints, in 4 cases, disciplinary measures were applied against 7 employees of the internal affairs bodies.
