Measures to reduce poverty in Uzbekistan in the focus of media attention in China

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- An article "From poverty reduction to full self-realization of a person" was published on the pages of the China information and analytical publication, Dunyo news agency reported.

The article reveals the consistent measures taken in Uzbekistan aimed at improving the living standards of the population and further improving the mechanisms for providing assistance to families in need of social protection, improving the productive forces in the country and the economic activity of the population.

The article notes that the reforms carried out in Uzbekistan in recent years in the socio-economic sphere today serve as an important foundation in the fight against poverty. A number of normative and legal acts to combat poverty have been adopted and put into effect.

Over the past period, strong ties have been established with international organizations (UN Development Program, Shanghai Cooperation Organization, UNICEF), financial institutions (World Bank, Asian Development Bank) to reduce poverty in Uzbekistan. Contacts have also been established with scientific centers of countries with advanced experience in this area (China International Center for Poverty Reduction).

In addition, in 11 non-state educational institutions, an average of 800 unemployed citizens per year are trained in 21 types of professions that are in high demand on the labor market. Employment was provided for 658 thousand people (or 76.5 percent) of the 1.6 million able-bodied unemployed population.

"China" also introduces readers to the measures envisaged for 2022 to develop human capital, further strengthen social protection, reduce poverty, create jobs, and improve the living conditions of the population in the regions.

The article emphasizes that, based on the priority, 45% of the funds according to the draft State budget are directed to the education sector. It is planned to allocate 22.6 trillion soums, or 11% of total spending, for healthcare. The number of needy families receiving social benefits will increase to 1 million 440 thousand, covering 16.5 percent of the total.

“Poverty reduction is an important task for every state. Uzbekistan also develops and implements strategic plans in an important segment of social policy. Therefore, the assistance provided to the population covers the shaft of all those in need, actively involving the majority of low-income citizens and socially vulnerable categories into labor activity,” the Chinese edition sums up.
