Measures to prevent violence during a pandemic discussed

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 28 October 2020, the Commission on Gender Equality of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Association of Non-Governmental Non-Profit Organizations under this Commission conducted a training on preventing domestic violence during the global Covid-19 crisis.

The event was organized as part of a project based on the experience of the European Union. It was attended by members of the Commission, representatives of political parties, non-governmental non-profit organizations operating in the country, deputies of local Kengashes, as well as media workers.

It was noted that due to the Covid-19 pandemic, cases of domestic violence have increased globally. In this regard, it is important to develop the relevant skills and knowledge of the staff of organizations providing services to victims of violence. Reducing the level of violence against women through the exchange of skills and experience in this area is also a pressing issue. Ensuring public awareness of the causes of the problem and the use of appropriate services, in conjunction with the media, is essential in preventing violence. In this regard, during the training, methods of effective dissemination of information in this direction were discussed.

The participants of the event also discussed measures at the national and local levels to provide comprehensive support to women, especially victims of violence, in a pandemic. In this regard, relevant proposals have been made.

Also, within the framework of the project, on 29 and 30 October 2020, one-day trainings will be held on this topic separately for journalists, employees of internal affairs bodies and medical institutions.
