Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Chairperson of the Federation Council, Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council Valentina Matvienko met with Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva. The conversation took place in Samarkand "on the sidelines" of the session of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of States Parties of the Commonwealth of Independent States.

Valentina Matvienko thanked for organizing the IPA CIS events, which are held in Uzbekistan for the first time, in the year of the 30th anniversary of the organization’s foundation. “This year, the center of world politics has moved to Uzbekistan, where major high-level international events are taking place. This indicates the growing role of the country in international politics and the authority of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Merziyoyev in the world community.”

Regarding bilateral relations, the Chairman of the Federation Council recalled the Declaration on a comprehensive strategic partnership signed by the presidents of Russia and Uzbekistan in September 2022 in Samarkand. “Thanks to the mutual understanding of the Presidents of Russia and Uzbekistan, we have reached the highest level of multifaceted and mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation,” said Valentina Matvienko.

We must aim at harmonizing legislation, creating a favorable business and investment climate

The sides paid special attention to the issues of interaction between legislators. Valentina Matvienko noted the importance of joint active work of the parliaments of the two countries for the implementation of the agreements of the leaders of the states. “Cooperation of parliamentarians is interested, informal. "We should be focused on harmonizing legislation, creating a favorable business and investment climate."

The meeting participants agreed to develop a "road map" of interaction that would correspond to the level of tasks arising from a comprehensive strategic partnership between Russia and Uzbekistan. Valentina Matvienko spoke about new opportunities for expanding cooperation, including in the field of IT technologies and high technologies. In her opinion, the potentials of the countries are huge and have not yet been fully used.

Tanzila Narbaeva stressed that Uzbekistan values relations with Russia, which are progressively developing. She noted the dialogue established at all levels, adding that the parliamentary dimension is one of the leading ones.

Valentina Matvienko and Tanzila Narbayeva noted the importance and effectiveness of the work of the Inter-Parliamentary Commission on Cooperation between the Federation Council and the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan and its co-chairs - First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Science, Education and Culture Ilyas Umakhanov and First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Sadyk Safayev. They made presentations on the results of the regular meeting of the IGC held in Samarkand. Ilyas Umakhanov said that the next meeting is scheduled to be held in the spring of 2023 in Moscow and Makhachkala.

The Speaker of the Federation Council also presented Sadyk Safaev with an honorary badge of the Federation Council "For merits in the development of parliamentarism."
